Investing in Women's Sports: A Conversation with Jasmine Robinson of Monarch Collective

At NWSL Boston, our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is at the heart of our work, starting with our investment group.Ā

We're proud to be a diverse, women-led ownership group where 40% of the capital is invested or controlled by Black and Brown investors, and 95% of the capital is invested or controlled by women. In our Investing in Women's Sports series, you'll have a chance to meet our investorsĀ and learn more about why investing in women's sports is both a smart investment and impactful for our communities.

Up first is Jasmine Robinson, Managing Partner at Monarch Collective, a fund going all-in on women's sports.

What led you to invest in NWSL Boston?

We first got to know the founding team just as friends and advisors as they were exploring bringing an NWSL team to Boston. We were so impressed with them both in terms of being great operators but also sharing our values. We liked how they took a long term view of building a sustainable business that can have a lasting impact on the Boston fan base and community.

"We're in the early days of building the women's sports fan base, but already you see the world showing up to fill stadiums and arenas to cheer on incredible athletes."

Why is investing in women's sports a smart investment strategy?

At Monarch Collective, our fund is focused exclusively on investing in women's sports. In our careers, we've spent time investing in tech, media, sports, and consumer. We launched this fund because we had deep conviction on the growth to come in women's sports. We're in the early days of building the women's sports fan base, but already you see the world showing up to fill stadiums and arenas to cheer on incredible athletes. We believe if you build the right fan and athlete experience, women's sports teams can continue to grow in value and as cultural institutions for our communities.

Why is investing in women's sports impactful for our communities?

For so long, women's pro athletes have not been well represented in popular culture. As we elevate the voices and profiles of female athletes, it helps young people see role models to aspire to that are more representative of the population. Sports teams generally are deeply tied into their local communities, whether it's volunteering or giving back directly or bringing economic impact to the local ecosystem.

Excellence. Accelerating. Joyful.
